Dish has launched its new Evolve M1 set-back box (SBB), a Google Certified Android TV player that’s specifically designed to provide an elevated in-room entertainment experience in hotels.
For those unaware, Dish is very actively involved in the Hotel industry through its Evolve and OnStream technologies and solutions. Earlier this year, and after previously partnering with Dish to deploy Evolve Android TV set-back boxes to hotels, PureHD announced it was utilizing Dish’s OnStream technology to provide guests with more of a modern entertainment experience.
Today, Dish announced the launch of its nex-gen Evolve player, Evolve M1. As to be expected, the newer Evolve device also comes powered by Dish’s OnStream technology. With this also being a Google Certified Android device, it has been approved as ready and secure enough to run Google apps and third-party Android apps available through the Google Play Store
“Following years of continued innovation, we’re unleashing the next generation of Evolve with the Evolve M1. Powered by OnStream and backed by our preeminent experience in the market, the Evolve M1 is ready to set a new standard for guest entertainment.”
While OnStream and Evolve are built on an Android TV foundation, the end product and design has been greatly customized to offer an experience more often associated with staying at a hotel. With the newer hardware, users can expect a faster and more responsive experience in general, as well as less of a need to worry about remaining logged in to apps on the device. According to Dish, the new Evolve M1 automatically clears user credentials from third-party apps.
From the hotelier perspective, the new Evolve M1 is said to make it easy for hotel managers and owners to limit guess access to the interface, including the settings.
As Dish’s new Evolve M1 is an SBB, it is designed to be more compact and even easier to hide than a typical set-top box, so those staying at a hotel may not even notice the device is in the room.
