Discovery+ comes with a decent level of device support with the option to watch on streaming players, smart TVs, mobile devices and more. However, this is still a new service and that inevitably means that device support is somewhat limited compared to more established services. Over time this should change, so even if a device is currently not supported, it could be soon.
For fans of real-life entertainment, Discovery+ is the streaming service to check out. Not only does it come with plenty of content from the Discovery Channel, but also from other entities and brands owned by Discovery, including Animal Planet, Food Network, HGTV, ID and more. All in all, Discovery+ allows subscribers to stream more than 2,500 shows, resulting in access to more than 55,000 videos.
With so much to watch, it is important to make sure the subscription service supports the devices currently in use in the home. Generally speaking, there aren’t too many issues in this respect with Discovery+ compatible with most major platforms, including Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Android, iPhone and Roku.
However, there are some exceptions. For example, while Discovery+ can be streamed on Microsoft Xbox games consoles, it is currently unavailable on Sony PlayStation 4 and 5 consoles. Likewise, while Samsung smart TV owners can download the app, LG smart TV owners can’t.

Discovery+ on a smart TV
Smart TVs are one of the least supported Discovery+ device categories right now. In fact, unless the smart TV is running on one of the mainstream operating systems, Discovery+ can currently only be accessed on Samsung-branded smart TVs. Even then, not all Samsung TVs can download the Discovery+ app with support limited to 2017 and newer models. LG smart TVs are currently not compatible with Discovery+.
For smart TVs powered by Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, or Roku, then the user will be able to download the Discovery+ app from the respective app store.

In addition to the smart TVs listed above, Discovery+ also supports both Apple AirPlay and Google Chromecast. Many devices, including smartphones, now support one of these casting solutions allowing users to stream apps from one device to another. As a result, subscribers can stream Discovery+ from an iPhone or Android phone to an AirPlay or Chromecast-supported smart TV.
Discovery+ on a streaming player
One of the easiest ways to watch Discovery+ is via a streaming player. Many streaming players are powered by Android TV and this often includes set-top boxes from a variety of companies and operators, including AT&T and Verizon. Essentially, if the player has the Google Play Store app installed, then there is a high chance Discovery+ can be downloaded on the device as well.

Discovery+ on Fire TV and Roku
Discovery+ is available on a wide variety of Fire TV devices, including both streaming players and smart TVs. As long as the device is running Android 5.0 or higher, then there should be no issues with downloading the Discovery+ app from the Amazon App Store.

Discovery+ on a games console
Besides smart TVs and streaming players, Discovery+ is also available on some games console models. However, this is really only applicable to Microsoft-branded devices, as Sony’s PlayStation line is not currently compatible with Discovery+.

Streaming Discovery via the web
If smart TVs, streaming players, and games consoles are not an option, then one possibility is to simply stream Discovery+ via a web browser. At present, Discovery+ is widely compatible with the major PC and Mac browsers, with the exception being Microsoft Edge.

Discovery+ device support summary
Overall, Discovery+ comes with a good level of device support. While there are some notable missing devices, including LG TVs and Sony PlayStation 4 and 5 consoles, these devices may gain support in the future. That goes for any other device that’s currently missing support. As is often the case with new services like Discovery+, it can take time for the supported device list to expand enough to cater to all subscribers equally.
However, with the major platforms including Fire TV and Roku coming with pretty much full device support, most consumers should not find it too difficult to find a device to stream their favorite Discovery+ shows on.
