Discovery+ no longer offers a student discount to new subscribers. The option to sign up for a student subscription was removed on June 1, 2023. If already receiving a student discount, Discovery+ says you will continue to receive the discount for the remainder of the verified year. After which, the student subscription will automatically convert to a non-student Discovery+ (ad lite) subscription.
Discovery+ does offer a student discount which reduces the monthly price of a subscription. Providing someone is actually a student and is able to confirm their status, there should be no issues with signing up and taking advantage of the cheaper monthly price. However, there are some caveats to be aware of including how the verification process works.
Discovery+ can be a good option for individuals and households looking for a streaming service that includes a variety of real-life content. A subscription provides access to a number of popular shows and networks, including Food Network, HGTV, ID, Discovery Channel and more. The service currently offers two plan options with ads the main difference. The ad-supported Discovery+ plan costs $4.99 per month while the ad-free subscription increases the cost to $6.99 per month.
Students can save on the monthly price by signing up for a student discount. Essentially, the student discount reduces the cost of the ad-supported Discovery+ subscription by 40 percent, bringing the price down to $2.99 per month. However, this is the first caveat to be aware of as Discovery+ currently does not offer a student discount on the ad-free plan. Those who want an ad-free experience will need to pay the full $6.99 per month subscription price.

Therefore, those looking to sign up at the cheaper rate will need to prove eligibility by confirming there student status. To apply for the discount, the student will first need to visit the Discovery+ website and click on the “Start Free Trial” button. Discovery+ actually provides a seven-day free trial as well, so student won’t have to make the first payment right away.
As part of the signing up process students will need to provide their first and last names, the name of the college or university, their date of birth and an email address before clicking on the “Verify My Student Status” button. The actual verification is carried out by SheerID, a third-party company which provides verification of different group memberships, including students. This code can them be redeemed through discoveryplus.com/redeem. After which, the student will then be able to continue and complete the signing up process for the ad-supported Discovery+ plan at the cheaper rate.
In some cases, additional information may need to be provided in order to complete the verification process. According to Discovery+, this will typically be requested in the form of documentation that’s dated within the last three months and confirms the student status.
Examples of additional documentation include:

Besides being an eligible student, the Discovery+ discount is only available to those between 18 and 24 years of age. In addition, existing subscribers are not able to sign up for the student discount while their current subscription remains active. Lastly, student subscriptions are out good for one year. In other words, students will need to re-verify their student status each year to maintain the discounted rate.
