Discovery+ Free Trial: How Long You Get And How To Get A Second Free Trial

Discovery+ Free Trial

Discovery+ will appeal to households looking for access to content from a variety of popular networks, including Discovery, HGTV, ID, and TLC. All new Discovery+ subscribers also get access to a 7-day free trial, making it possible to check if the service is right before paying for a monthly subscription.

There is actually more than one way to start a Discovery+ free trial, and one option may suit some consumers better than others. The availability of different options also opens up the possibility for those that have already taken advantage of a Discovery+ free trial to get another one.

As mentioned, the standard Discovery+ free trial lasts seven days, and is the very easiest way to check the streaming service out before paying.

In addition to the standalone Discovery+ service, a good selection of Discovery+ content can also be accessed through Max at no additional cost. However, Max doesn’t typically offer a free trial to new subscribers.

If You’ve Already Used A Discovery+ Free Trial

As the Discovery+ free trial is only available to new subscribers, those that have already subscribed to the streaming service in the past won’t be able to sign up for another free trial.

Signing up directly through Discovery+ is not the only option, however, as there are various third-party services that also offer Discovery+ as a channel, and one of the best examples of this is Amazon.

Through Amazon’s Prime Video Channels, Prime Members can easily sign up to Discovery+ at the same price, and watch for free for the first seven days.

The use of third-party services like Prime Video Channels can be a good way to get a second free trial. Considering a Prime Video Channels subscription is with Amazon, it won’t matter if you’ve already used up a free trial with Discovery+.

If not a Prime member, new users can get a 7-day Discovery+ free trial when signing up through other third-party services, including The Roku Channel.

Before signing up for the free trial

Regardless of the service used to start a free trial, there are some things to be aware of before signing up, including choosing a plan in advance.

With two tiers to choose from, the main difference between the different Discovery+ plans is the use of ads. The cheapest option is the $4.99/month ad-supported plan while the $8.99/month tier unlocks an ad-free streaming experience.

As new users are required to select a plan when signing up, the choice will also affect the free trial experience. For example, ad-free users can watch without ads during the free trial, while ad-supported users will have to sit through ad breaks.

While consumers can choose the ad-free plan and switch to the cheaper ad-supported subscription before the free trial ends, this will require them to remember to make the switch in time to avoid paying the higher monthly rate.

As Discovery+ also uses automatic billing, new subscribers will need to provide a payment option when signing up for the free trial, and the first monthly payment will automatically be taken from the account before the end of the free trial.

The only way to avoid automatically paying for the first month is to cancel Discovery+ at least a day before the first billing date. The exact method of canceling the subscription will also depend on how it was created.

For example, subscriptions set up through Discovery+ will need to be canceled through Discovery+, and subscriptions created through Prime Video Channels will need to be canceled through Amazon.

It is also worth mentioning that canceling the free trial might immediately end the free trial, depending on the service used to start the subscription. Due to this, subscribers may want to avoid canceling too early, or before they have made a decision on whether Discovery+ is a streaming service worth paying for.
