DirecTV has now started rolling out an upgraded user interface for satellite customers. Beginning with customers in Denver, Colorado, the plan is for the new interface to become available to all eligible satellite customers nationwide later this year.
Available on Genie and Gemini devices, the biggest change is the new menu, which now includes Live TV, Continue Watching, Discover, and Live Sports content carousels. The update brings the look and feel of the menu more in line with DirecTV Stream and DirecTV via Internet, following the rolling out of a similar update to DirecTV streaming devices over the past year.
In August of last year, DirecTV announced a new ‘Sports Central‘ experience for Gemini devices. Sports Central is basically a sports hub where users can more easily find and discover games and related content to watch on DirecTV and select third-party apps.
As part of the new update, DirecTV satellite customers are also gaining access to an upgraded version of Sports Central.
The upgrade is also designed to improve recommendations as well. To begin with, Home screen recommendations will now be based on the user’s selected favorites and most watched content. In the future, DirecTV plans to improve the user experience further by drawing on a user’s preferred programming to show even more personalized recommendations.
As the new interface is being deployed through a phased rollout, satellite customers can expect to see an on-screen notification when it is available to install on their Genie or Gemini device.
