DirecTV Stream Entertainment Plan: Price, Channels, And Add-Ons

DirecTV Stream Entertainment plan

Entertainment is one of the main live TV plans offered by DirecTV Stream, and whether it is the right package for a home will depend on a number of factors including the price and the selection of channels. Here’s a closer look at what you get with DirecTV Stream’s Entertainment plan and how it compares.

DirecTV Stream was previously known as AT&T TV, AT&T TV Now, and DirecTV Now. Over the course of these various rebrands, the plans have also changed as well. For example, while there were four main plans to choose from under DirecTV Now, the choice was slimmed down to just two under AT&T TV Now, before then returning to four again under AT&T TV.

For those signing up to DirecTV Stream today, there are still four main live TV packages to choose from – Entertainment, Choice, Ultimate, and Premier. As to be exempted, the main differences between these four plans are the channels and the price. Entertainment is the cheapest overall, which does also mean that it comes with the fewest channels overall as well.

How much Entertainment costs per month

DirecTV Stream’s Entertainment plan costs $74.99 per month. To put the price of Entertainment into perspective, Choice costs $99.99 per month, Ultimate costs $109.99 per month, and Premier costs $154.99.

DirecTV StreamPrice (p/m)Channels
Entertainment$74.9975+
Choice$99.99105+
Ultimate$109.99140+
Premier$154.99150+

For the $74.99 monthly price, subscribers get access to more than 75 live TV channels. This is in addition to an unlimited cloud DVR and the ability to stream on an unlimited number of devices when connected to the home network.

Even though these are both unlimited features, they do come with some restrictions. For example, recordings are only kept for a maximum of 9 months, and only up to 30 episodes from the same show can be stored at any one time.

While the Entertainment plan is the cheapest of all the DirecTV Stream plans, it is somewhat expensive when compared to the competition. For example, Sling TV’s cheapest plans start at $40 per month, Vidgo’s at $60 per month, YouTube TV costs $64.99 per month, and Hulu Live TV is priced at $69.99 per month. fuboTV recently encountered a price increase, making its cheapest plan the same price as DirecTV Stream’s cheapest package.

Sling TV$4030+
Vidgo$59.95110+

Generally speaking, the Entertainment plan is designed to be a good all-around plan for most homes with access to a mixture of news, entertainment and sports.

However, and as the name suggests, it is more geared towards entertainment than anything else. If interested in greater access to sports, including regional sports networks, or more premium entertainment channels, then one of the other DirecTV Stream plans might prove to be a better choice.

Entertainment add-ons and premium channels

Similar to most other live TV streaming services, DirecTV Stream does also offer premium channel add-ons that can be bundled with the Entertainment plan, at an additional cost per month.

  • Allblk ($5.99/mo)
  • AMC Plus ($5.99/mo)
  • Discovery Plus ($2.99/mo)
  • Fox Nation ($5.99/mo)

  • Cinemax ($11/mo)
  • NBA League Pass Premium ($19.99/mo)

DirecTV Stream Entertainment summary

Entertainment is only one of the plans offered by DirecTV Stream, and with access to more than 75 channels at $74.99 per month, it is currently the cheapest plan available through the service.

As the name suggests, Entertainment is more suited to those looking for access to a wide selection of entertainment channels. While it does also come with some news and sports channels, Choice, Ultimate, and Premier are better options for sports and premium networks.

Even though Entertainment is the cheapest DirecTV Stream plan, it is a relatively expensive subscription when compared to other live TV streaming services. Hulu Live TV, Philo, Sling TV, Vidgo, and YouTube TV, all offer cheaper live TV plans than DirecTV Stream, albeit with a different number and variety of channels.

  1. I love the DirecTV Stream device, it is so smooth switching between apps and DirecTV with basically no load times…I can get more channels with Sling for a lower price, but the closet thing to the DTV Stream device would be the AirTV mini. I like the mini but switching between apps and Sling is not as fast or smooth as on DTV device. I worry Sling is abandoning AirTV platform and will not make a more powerful streaming device. The mini came out 3 years ago and AirTV has not tweeted since 2019…of course you can use a FireTV or Roku, but I love how AirTV and the DTV Stream device incorporate everything into a more cable like feel…I keep trying to get Sling to give info about the future of AirTV streaming devices but so far no luck.
