DirecTV and DirecTV Stream subscribers also signed up to the Showtime add-on can now access the Paramount+ app at no additional cost, unlocking access to even more content.
Paramount Global began the slow process of merging Showtime with Paramount+ last year. While this originally resulted in the relaunching of the premium Paramount+ plan as the Paramount+ with Showtime plan, Paramount continued to shut down Showtime’s standalone products and services throughout the rest of last year.
As part of that shutting down process, the linear version of Showtime was replaced with the linear Paramount+ with Showtime channel earlier this month. This has now led to DirecTV Stream’s Showtime add-on being replaced with the $11/month Paramount+ with Showtime add-on.
DirecTV today confirmed that the new Paramount+ with Showtime add-on also now includes access to the Paramount+ app. While the rebranded linear channel does include Paramount+ originals, along with Showtime content, the Paramount+ app is home to a lot more content. Therefore, taking advantage of the ability to log in to the app will unlock access to even more content.
DirecTV and DirecTV Stream subscribers will first need to head over to the Paramount+ partner page to get started. Subscribers will then need to confirm their eligibility by signing in with their DirecTV or DirecTV account details. After they have created a Paramount account, they will then be able to use those new account details to log in to Paramount+ in the future.
Hulu made an identical change last week. Similar to DirecTV, Hulu’s Showtime add-on was replaced with a new Paramount+ with Showtime add-on, and this also opened up the ability for add-on subscribers to access the Paramount+ app at no additional cost.
