DirecTV Stream subscribers using a Fire TV device have now gained access to DirecTV 4K (Channel 104) following the latest app update. With the new support, DirecTV Stream subscribers are able to watch select programming at the higher resolution on a 4K-supported Fire TV player or TV.
The DirecTV 4k Channel has been slowly rolling out to more devices over the past few weeks. After initially going live on DirecTV devices, Channel 104 also made its way to Roku devices before then rolling out to Apple TV devices earlier this month.
It now looks like it is the turn of Fire TV devices. An update recently started rolling out to Fire TV devices and Streaming Better can confirm that it enables access to 4K programming on compatible devices.
For reference, the app version is 4.0.52.2002037272, so those interested in getting access to Channel 104 will need to make sure their device is updated to this version.
According to DirecTV, Channel 104 features shows, original series, and documentaries. While Fire TV users now have access to 4K programming, they will only have access to whatever is currently being shown on the channel at the time.
With Gemini, Apple TV, Fire TV, and Roku devices having all gained support over the past few weeks, a large portion of the DirecTV Stream subscriber base is now expected to have the option of watching in 4K.
As for Android TV users, it looks like they’ll have to wait a little longer. The DirecTV Android TV app was recently updated (July 27, according to the Play Store), but it doesn’t look like the more recent update includes support for Channel 104.
Android TV devices are officially listed as DirecTV 4K supported devices, so it is expected that these devices will eventually gain support.
