WMYD-TV (TV20) in Detroit is all set to become a CW affiliate beginning Monday, Nov. 13, thanks to a new agreement between The CW Network and The E.W. Scripps Company.
The CW has been making a number of deals recently. In August, The CW Network not only extended its partnership with Sinclair, which also resulted in the return of The CW to DirecTV Stream subscribers in 21 markets, but it also extended its partnership with Hearst as well.
As part of its new agreement with Scripps, WMYD-TV will carry all of The CW’s network’s primetime entertainment, live sports and special event programming starting next week.
“We are extremely pleased to be adding TV20 as a CW affiliate, especially as we get set to launch ACC men’s and women’s college basketball next month,” said Dennis Miller, President of The CW Network. “TV20 has a legacy of service to the community, and it will be a great home in the Detroit metro area for The CW.”
According to a press release issued a few days ago, WADL-TV dropped The CW programming in the Detroit market last week, blaming the delay in FCC approval of its sale to Mission Broadcasting as the reason.
In addition to agreeing new deals and extensions, The CW has also been aggressively expanding its sports coverage this year as well. July in particular was a busy month following a new agreement for The CW Network to become the exclusive home of the NASCAR Xfinity Series.
This was in addition to a separate deal in July confirming The CW Network was also becoming home to 50 ACC college football and basketball games this year, and each season through 2026-2027.
