Fast Pair notification on Google TV

The Chromecast with Google TV 4K is getting a new firmware update which, among other things, adds Fast Pair support. The company had previously confirmed that Fast Pair support was coming in February but it remained unclear exactly when during the month it would arrive.

The last firmware update to roll out to the Chromecast with Google TV 4K was STTE.230915.005, according to Google, bringing with it the October 2023 Android security patch. However, 9to5 Google reports that a newer version (STTE.231215.005) is now rolling out to devices and boosts the Android security patch to January 2024. Separately, a Reddit user has also confirmed that the update is in the process of rolling out.

In addition to the newer security patch, the latest update also includes Fast Pair support. As a reminder, Fast Pair unlocks the option for users to quickly connect a compatible set of Bluetooth headphones. Instead of having to go through the settings and manually establishing a connection, the Chromecast with Google TV 4K should now automatically detect when a compatible set of headphones or earbuds are nearby and offer the option to connect.

According to 9to5 Google, the update also adds an Audio output Quick Settings tile to the Chromecast with Google TV 4K. Considering the new Quick Settings tile offers a way to quickly change the audio output, it makes sense for it to roll out at the same time as Fast Pair support for Bluetooth devices like headphones and earbuds.

While this update is only rolling out to Google’s more expensive Chromecast with Google TV player, Google did previously confirm that Fast Pair support will expand to more Google TV devices later this year.
