Update Feb 18: It now looks like Buffy and Angel won’t be leaving Hulu anytime soon. Hulu has removed the expiring tags and confirmed that both shows won’t be removed at the end of the month after a streaming rights extension was agreed.
Original article: All seasons of Buffy and Angel might unexpectedly leave Hulu at the end of the month. We say might be as it currently remains unclear if the popular shows are leaving. Likewise, why they would be leaving and where they could be going.
Each month Hulu releases information on the shows that are being added and removed. We summarize these in our everything new on Hulu and last chance on Hulu articles. At the start of February, Hulu did not state that Buffy and Angel were leaving. We’ve already taken a quick look at March’s new arrivals and leavers, and neither show is currently listed as leaving there either.
In spite of this, both shows have now started displaying an ‘expiring’ tag. This tag is currently visible on every episode of every season, suggesting that the entire catalogs of Buffy and Angel are on their way out. If the tags are correct, then every episode of both shows will be removed by March 1st, 2023.
Although we have seen some suggestions that the shows are about to make a switch from Hulu to Disney Plus, that also remains unclear at the moment. Yes, both Buffy and Angel are available to watch on Disney Plus in a number of countries, including Canada, but that’s currently not the case in the U.S.
In addition, we’ve had a quick look at the titles Disney Plus is currently advertising as arriving in March 2023 and neither Buffy nor Angel is listed. This doesn’t mean that they won’t arrive next month, it is just that the information has yet to be confirmed.
One option which may still be available next month is The Roku Channel. While Hulu has been hosting both shows for some time now, The Roku Channel also currently has every episode of Buffy and every episode of Angel available to stream. Furthermore, all of the episodes are available to watch completely for free.
Those that want to add Buffy and/or Angel to their watchlist, or bookmark the shows so that they can continue watching where they left off, they will need to create a Roku account. Luckily, Roku accounts are also completely free to create and use.
