A 24-hour BBC News FAST channel is now available to stream for free on various free, ad-supported streaming services and platforms in the U.S. The new FAST channel was launched as an extension of the joint venture between AMC Networks and BBC Studio.

AMC+, AMC Networks’ streaming platform, is already home to plenty of BBC content through the BBC America joint venture. However, this extension of that partnership is different in the sense that it opens up access to anyone with an internet connection and a supported device.

The new BBC News FAST channel is now available to stream through Samsung TV Plus, Sling Freestream, Plex, Pluto TV, Vizio WatchFree+, and Xumo Play. While service support is a little limited at launch, consumers can expect the FAST news channel to gain support for additional platforms and services in the future.

This is a significant milestone for the BBC as this launch will more than double the current reach and availability of the BBC News channel in the U.S. at a time when access to independent news and information is more important than ever,” said Tara Maitra, Chief Commercial Officer, Global Media & Streaming, BBC Studios. “We’re proud to launch this channel with the support of so many of the leading CTV/FAST platform partners as we continue to expand the footprint of BBC News and bring the BBC’s journalism to wider audiences in the region.”

As for the cable version of BBC News, it would seem nothing is particularly changing on this front, with the linear channel remaining available to watch through pay-TV services that carry BBC News, including DirecTV, Philo, and YouTube TV. The new FAST version simply opens the door for the channel to reach those consumers that don’t currently pay for a live TV plan.

Earlier this month, BBC Studios announced it had taken full ownership and control of BritBox International, after buying out ITV’s stake for £255 million ($322 million).
