Bally Sports Plus Officially Launches, Adds Roku Support

Bally Sports Plus has now officially launched, and at the same time, is now available on the Roku platform. Bally Sports Plus has been a long time in the making, with the direct-to-consumer solution attempting to fill the gap that was created by the removal of various local sports networks from multiple live TV streaming services.

Technically, the Bally Sports Plus subscription service launched back in June of this year. However, this was only a soft launch with the streaming service only going live in select markets at the time. The soft launch was only ever expected to be a short term development, with a full launch expected to take place sometime in the fall of 2022.

That time has now come with Bally Sports Plus officially having launched today, September 26. Even though this is considered a nationwide launch, Bally Sports Plus is only available in markets where Bally Sports’ regional sports networks are offered. In those areas, however, the subscription service can be used to access NBA and NHL games produced by Bally Sports, as well as additional pre-game and post-game shows and other exclusive content. Depending on the market, consumers may also be able to access their local MLB teams.

In addition to opening up in all available markets, Bally Sports has also now officially gone live on Roku, making it possible for households with access to a Roku player to download the app directly on their device and access all of their eligible local sports teams. For reference, there is no dedicated Plus app, so Roku users will be downloading the Bally Sports app from the Roku Channel Store. Once downloaded and installed, the app can then be used to either access the direct-to-consumer subscription service or logged in to with an eligible live TV provider.

With a standalone subscription starting at $19.99 per month, Bally Sports Plus is not the cheapest streaming service around. However, if located in an area where there is no other option to watch local teams, then it does unlock access, and without the need for a separate live TV plan.
