Apple TV might get a new ‘multiview’ feature soon making it possible for users to watch multiple sports feeds on the same screen at the same time. Apple already offers its ecosystem users a picture-in-picture mode which helps with watching sports. However, as Picture in Picture is limited to just one feed, a true multiview mode would be a major upgrade overall.
Multiview has become a bit of a trending topic of late and especially since it first became clear that YouTube TV was launching its version. Long before YouTube TV’s version came along, fuboTV has offered its own Multiview mode – shown in the image at the top of this article. The only problem with fuboTV’s Multiview is that the feature is currently only available on Apple TV players.
Speaking of which, Apple TV players may not need to rely on fuboTV or YouTube TV for a multiview mode soon. Spotted by Steve Moser and reported on by 9to5 Mac, it would seem that Apple is currently working on its own version for the Apple TV app.
This is all based on iOS 16.5 beta code that references the “Multiview” feature along with support for watching up to four simultaneous streams at once.
Right now the information continues to be limited but it would seem that this is somewhat purpose-designed with sports in mind.
Considering Apple has been making a major push into sports streaming in recent months, with MLB Friday Night Baseball and MLS Season Pass just two of the most recent examples, it makes sense that Apple may also be working on improving the sports-watching experience as well, including through the use of a Multiview feature.
Of course, the one thing the code strings can’t tell us just yet is when such a feature is likely to become available, if it does at all. In the meantime, Apple TV users can continue to use fuboTV and its Multiview support or stick with Apple TV’s one-feed Picture in Picture support.
