Apple is adding a new InSight feature to Apple TV, providing users with more information about the content they are watching. In general, InSight appears to be very similar to Amazon’s X-Ray feature for Prime Video.
InSight makes it possible for users to surface information related to the scene or show with just a push of the button, including the actors and characters in a scene, or any music that happening’s to be playing at the time. Users can also click on any of these InSight insights for more information. For example, selecting an actor allows the user to view their background and filmography page, while clicking on a song will make it possible to quickly add the track to an Apple Music playlist.
Once available, InSight will be accessible through a new tab on the on-screen menu, located between the existing Info and Up Next tab when watching a video. Apple also confirmed that InSight information will also be available on an iPhone when using the mobile device as an Apple TV remote.
Announced at the company’s WWDC 2024 event today, Apple confirmed that InSight will be available on Apple TV when tvOS 18 rolls out to supported players later this year.
“This fall, tvOS 18 and our services take entertainment in the home to the next level by bringing timely information to fans about their favorite characters and scenes,” said Stan Ng, Apple’s vice president of Apple Watch, Audio, Health, and Home Product Marketing.
The developer beta of tvOS 18 will be available beginning today.
