The cost of a Netflix subscription has continually increased over the years and it now looks like another price increase might be coming soon. Specifically, an increase to Netflix’s ad-free plans.

While Netflix hasn’t increased the prices in 2023 yet, it has been making some changes to its subscription tiers and policies. For example, the launch of Netflix Households as a way to cut down on password-sharing. Even more recently, Netflix removed its Basic plan, resulting in the removal of the cheapest ad-free subscription option in general.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Netflix is currently considering raising the price of its ad-free plan in several markets. Citing “people familiar with the matter” for the information, the report also suggests the price increase will likely begin in the United States and Canada.

While the report didn’t provide any information on exactly when, it does suggests that Netflix will likely roll out the price increase a few months after the Hollywood actors strike comes to an end. The report didn’t provide any details on how much the ad-free plans will increase by.

At present, Netflix offers two main ad-free plans to choose from. The cheapest is the Standard price, priced at $15.49 a month. The other ad-free plan is the Premium plan, which costs $19.99 a month. The last time both of these plans encountered a price increase was at the start of 2022.

As a result of that 2022 price increase, and the removal of the Basic plan earlier this year, the cheapest ad-free plan costs $15.49 a month. Therefore, any price increase that does apply to Netflix’s ad-free plan will see the cheapest ad-free option go beyond $16 a month. If the Premium plan also increases at the same time, the price would go beyond the $20 a month mark.
