The NHL’s Seattle Kraken have agreed a new deal which will make it possible for Amazon Prime members in Washington, Oregon and Alaska to stream non-nationally televised games directly in the Prime Video app from next season, which is due to begin on October 4, 2024.

The deal not only includes regular season Seattle Kraken games, but also pre-season games and the first round of playoffs. It also marks the first time that an NHL team has partnered directly with Prime Video.

Seattle Kraken hockey is synonymous with the Pacific Northwest, and we’re thrilled to bring Prime members in Washington, Oregon and Alaska access to Kraken games on Prime Video,” said Charlie Neiman, head of sports partnerships, Prime Video. “Live Kraken games add to our growing selection of premium live sports and deliver additional value for Prime members throughout the Kraken home footprint.”

Once the 2024-2025 season begins, Prime members in Washington, Oregon and Alaska should immediately see live games advertised when opening the Prime Video app. It will also be possible to find live games by searching for “Seattle Kraken” in the app.

The deal is part of a wider announcement by the NHL team on how its games can be watched by fans beginning next season. According to the announcement, all non-nationally televised games will be broadcast on Tegna’s KONG starting next season, with a number of games throughout the season simulcast on Tegna’s NBC affiliate, KING 5. Games will also be broadcast free over the air on Tegna’s NBC affiliate KGW in Portland, and CBS affiliate KREM in Spokane.

Additional deals with broadcast companies are expected to be agreed in the coming weeks to offer free over-the-air broadcast access to all available television markets in Washington, Oregon and Alaska.

Our collaboration with the Seattle Kraken marks a significant milestone in our commitment to celebrating the essence of local sports on local broadcast television,” said Dave Lougee, president and CEO, TEGNA. “We look forward to bringing every thrilling moment of Kraken hockey to all viewers in the Pacific Northwest as we build on our long-standing commitment to the region.”
