The Fire TV Stick 4K Max is Amazon’s streaming device for 2021 and is designed to offer consumers even more of a premium experience than what’s available with the Fire TV Stick 4K. The company already offers a variety of stick-based streaming players, as do other companies, and this latest model continues to build on the features and experience, while also attempting to keep the cost of the hardware as low as possible.

Streaming players like the Fire TV Stick come with some unique benefits. The most obvious of which is the compact nature of the device. With them being as small as they are, they can quickly and easily add smart features to a TV without having to make space for another device. In some cases, there’s also no need to worry about additional cables connecting the two devices together. Their smaller form also makes them ideal devices for use when away from home, on vacation, at work, or just in another room in the home. Not to mention, they tend to be cheap compared to more robust streaming players.

Amazon’s Fire TV Stick 4K Max looks to continue offering these same benefits with the use of the exact same design as previous Fire Stick models. However, at $54.99 (see at Amazon), the Fire TV Stick 4K Max also costs more than those previous models. In spite of the higher price, the new model does come with some additional features that might make the purchase worthwhile to some consumers.

For starters, Amazon states this is the company’s “most powerful streaming stick” citing a 40 percent improvement in power compared to the Fire TV Stick 4K. Further adding to the more power argument, the new model also supports Wi-Fi 6. Amazon makes the point that this is the first steaming player to offer Wi-Fi 6 support for under $179, although consumers will need the rest of their setup to also support the next-gen Wi-Fi to fully take advantage of the benefits. Namely, a Wi-Fi 6 compatible router.

As to be expected, the Fire TV Stick 4K Max does also come with many of the usual video and audio features now touted by many streaming players, including 4K Ultra HD with support for Dolby Vision, HDR, HDR10+ and Dolby Atmos. All of which will make it a good option for watching movies and TV shows over the internet. Again, this is as long as the rest of the home setup, including the streaming services used, also offer support for the same features.

For reference, the new Fire TV Stick 4K Max was only one of the new devices that Amazon announced today, as the company also unveiled its first own-branded smart TVs. The 4-Series and Omni Series TVs also run on the Fire TV platform and remove the need for any additional devices. Both the 4-Series and Omni Series are available to buy in multiple sizes, and at comparably competitive prices.
